Accra, May 6, GNA- Professor Mike Oquaye, Minister of Communications, on Saturday noted that government is very much concerned about the water shortage in some parts of Accra and assured that everything is being done to solve the problem.
Prof Oquaye, who is also the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region gave the assurance when he presented a cheque of five million dollars to the Taifa community.
The amount is intended to help solve the water shortage problem that residents in the area had gone through for the past several years. The money forms part of the 20 million dollars donated to the government of Ghana by Areeba communication Network to assist in the Accra water project, which is estimated to cost 30 million dollars. Prof Oquaye said, “As MP for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, I have been working morning, noon and night to help find a lasting solution to the problem…”he said.
He said the five million dollars would help the constituency solve its water supply crisis, “the situation would be better” he added. The Minister said work had already commenced on the Accra project and government would raise the remaining 10 million in the shortest possible to accelerate work.
“The paradigm of people-centered development for national growth, which is the main focus of my campaign is what is being demonstrated in my own constituency by the on-going projects.
“We have started the process in Dome-Kwabenya and Taifa and soon it would spread to the other constituencies in the Greater Accra Region and the rest of the country,” the MP noted He mentioned some of the projects as the construction of drainage systems, the Ashongman Estate police post, streetlights, a cottage industry at Kwabenya and the construction of drains and road at Christian Village a suburb of the area.
The MP said in the area of education, he has been able to secure funding for the establishment of a community computer laboratory for the community.
He thanked the members of the Assembly for their support in finding a lasting solution to the problems facing the area and called for unity and cooperation among members.
