Water shortage hits Manhyia Number Four

Manhyia No 4 (B/A), July 12, GNA – An acute water shortage has hit Manhyia Number 4, a predominantly Cocoa growing community near Sankore in the Asunafo South District of Brong Ahafo. The situation has therefore compelled residents especially school children to form long queues to get water from the only hand dug well for the community.

The shortage is affecting teaching and learning in the schools. Ms Bawuah Mariama, Assembly Member for the community, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the weekend that, the only well constructed in 1994 was inadequate and could not meet the demands of the people. The Assemblywoman said since the construction of the well no chemical treatment had been made; the situation she lamented had contributed to the outbreak of water borne disease in the area. Ms Bawauh appealed to the district assembly, Non-Governmental Organisations, philanthropists as well as public-spirited bodies and individuals, to come to the aid of the people.
