Takoradi, June 16, GNA – The acute water crisis that hit many parts of the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis over the past month would soon be over, according to Mr Ireneuos Buule, Regional Engineer of the Ghana Water Company Limited told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday. He said the company was compelled to ration treated water in May and June to residents due to low water levels at its Daboase head works. Mr Buule said the water level, which was supposed to be at 23 feet to facilitate the uninterrupted supply of water, fell to 10 feet during the period.
He said the system at Daboase serviced residents in Takoradi and its environs while the Inchaban plant also served the Sekondi township and its environs.
Mr. Buule said recent heavy rains had led to the increase in water levels at the Daboase headwork to 22.5 feet as at June 12. He said currently residents of Sekondi have uninterrupted water supply while those in Takoradi would soon enjoy the service in full. Mr. Buule appealed to residents and users of GWCL water to pay their bills promptly to enable the company to provide quality service to the public.
