Watchman found dead in pool of blood

Atwima-Koforidua (Ash), Dec. 11, GNA – Abana Atama, a 56-year-old watchman of the Atwima-Koforidua Methodist Church near Abuakwa, was on November 22, found dead in a pool of blood with a big cut in the head. Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Akonnor, Abuakwa District Police Commander, said he suspected that armed robbers might have killed the watchman.

He said at about 02:30 hours on the day the watchman met his untimely death, some armed robbers attempted to break into a kiosk belonging to one Alex Opoku, which was about 100 metres from the Methodist Church where the deceased was the watchman.

ASP Akonnor said even though the robbers failed in their bid to destroy the padlock of the kiosk, they managed to steal 58 pieces of iron rods, which were in front of the kiosk belonging to Opoku. He said it was therefore highly probable that the watchman might have confronted the robbers, who killed him.

The police, he said were conducting intensive investigations into the incident.
