Watchman appears before court for stealing

The Nyinahin Magistrates’ Court presided over by Mr Sam Nibi has ordered Kofi Fofie, a 26 year old watchman to pay a fine of GH¢120.00 for stealing his Chinese employer’s mining tools.

His accomplice, Evans Agyei, an excavator operator was also fined the same amount for abetment of crime.

The two will each serve 270 days in prison if they fail to pay the fine.

They pleaded guilty to conspiracy and stealing.

Police Chief Inspector David Otabil, prosecuting, told the Court that the accused is a watchman, who lives together with his employer, a Chinese small-scale miner, Mike Ni, at Ntroboso near Adiemra in the Atwima-Mponua District.

On June 9, 2015, when the Chinese had gone out, Fofie took advantage of his absence, entered his room and stole some of his working tools, including his weighing scales and gave them to his accomplice, Agyei.

Aftert the case had been reported to the police, intelligence revealed that Agyei took the stolen items to Tarkwa in the Western Region.

Prosecution said investigations led to the arrest of the accused persons and some of the items were retrieved excluding the weighing scales.

After further investigations, they were charged.
