Wassa West gives GH10,000 to Mines University

Tarkwa (W/R), July 11, GNA- The Wassa West District has presented a cheque of GH( 10,000 (100 million cedis) to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at a ceremony in Tarkwa. The money was the last installment of the promise made by Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive at the inauguration of UMaT two years ago.

Mr. Ayensu said the money was meant for the running of the university.

Prof. Daniel Mireku Gyimah, Vice Chancellor of UMaT expressed his sincerest gratitude to the Wassa West District Assembly for fulfilling its promise.

He said UMaT has not seen much assistance from benevolent societies and pleaded with the Wassa West District Assembly to consider the gesture as an annual ritual for at least fifteen years. He said the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council has released 26sq km land for the expansion of the University.

The Vice Chancellor said if the government is finding it difficult to develop the UmaT to the level of University of Ghana, then it must be developed in phases with an expenditure of GH( 1 million (10 billion cedis) a year.

He said, private estate developers would build student hostels while the administration would concentrate on academic facilities.
