Wassa- Essaman community shows appreciation to an American volunteer

Wassa-Essaman (W/R), Aug. 26, GNA – The people of Wassa- Essaman, in the Western Region, had installed an American Volunteer Teacher, Mr Lucas Hartstane-Rose as Nkuohene (Development Chief), for his meritorious service to the community.

Mr Hartstane- Rose, whose stool name is Nana Yaw Boateng IV, had single-handedly rehabilitated the community Early Childhood Development Centre at the cost of 10 million cedis.

He was presented with a number of gifts, including kente cloth and stool, native sandals and a sceptre by the traditional elders and the staff and pupils of Kofi Mensah Junior Secondary School, at a send-off party to show appreciation for his 11 months duty.

Nana Boateng had served for the past two years in the Volta, Upper West and Western Regions.

Mr Kofi Mensah, a Business Executive and Mr Daniel Obeng, the Assembly Member for the area, praised Nana Boateng for his efforts to improve the quality of education in the community

Nana Boateng reminded parents, of the need to bring up their children in a responsible manner to make them useful to society. Parents, he said, should take keen interest in the growth and development of their children by providing them quality education as a priceless legacy.

“You must willingly spend your resources on the education of your children, bearing in mind that, in today’s world, education for your children is the best investment you could ever make.” Nana Boateng, urged the people to reverse negative trends that affect the well being of children in the area, such as teenage pregnancies and child labour. 26 Aug. 04
