Wassa communities commend government for its achievements

Breprow (W/R), July 23, GNA – Five farming communities in the Wassa-Amenfi East District of the Western Region have expressed their profound appreciation of the government’s achievements, particularly the success chalked in the economic front within a relatively short period. The sentiments were expressed at separate durbars organised by the chiefs and people of Breprow, Nkrumahkrom, Manseso, Appiahkrom and Shusenso-Bowia in honour of Madam Doris Gyapomah Oduro, District Chief Executive (DCE), when she paid a familiarisation visit to the area on Thursday.

Mr Benjamin Teye, an opinion leader and secretary of Breprow community, welcoming the DCE said “the people have been following with keen interest the efforts of the government to put the national economy on a sound footing”.

He mentioned the existing freedom of speech, reconciliation, rule of law and the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the capitation grant among others as “some of the achievements of the government that everybody must be proud of”. Mr Teye urged the National Democratic Congress and other opposition parties to support the government’s efforts to improve the lives of the people.

He appealed for the supply of basic amenities including potable water, a health facility, toilets and good roads. At Shusenso-Bowia, the Odikro Nana Obiri Yeboah II, commended the government for working hard to improve the lots of the people. He applauded the DCE’s commitment towards the development of the area and said she had proved that what a man could do, a woman could equally do and sometimes-even better.

Nana Obiri Yeboah appealed for a modern classroom block for the local primary school and a market to enhance the economic activities of the people.

Madam Oduro urged parents to take advantage of the capital grant and the school feeding programme and send their children of school going age to school as a strategy to reduce poverty. 23 July 06
