Warnings of outbreak of cholera in Ashanti

Kumasi, April 28, GNA – Dr Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, has warned of a possible outbreak of cholera in the region, if measures were not instituted to ensure good sanitary conditions.

He identified the onset of the rainy season, coupled with inappropriate human waste disposal and poor personal hygiene, as the main factors, which were likely to trigger an outbreak of the epidemic. This was contained in a press release signed by Dr Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services and issued in Kumasi on Friday.

“There is a risk that the epidemic which broke out in 2005 will re-occur, if preventive measures were not put in place”, the release said.

The release also charged the citizenry to practise good personal hygiene, which includes the washing of hands with soap before eating and especially after attending funerals, for the general improvement of health in the region. 28 April 06
