Warning against removal of stone in Keta Sea Defence walls

Keta, July 24, GNA – Mr Kofi Ahiabor, Keta District Chief Executive, has warned that miscreants removing protective stones at the Keta beach would not be spared when caught. The stone embankment along the Keta beach was part of the design to ward off the sea.

Mr Ahiabor, who was addressing a durbar to launch Emancipation Day/Joseph Project at Keta on Saturday, said some “desperadoes as a way of discrediting the government” were carrying out such acts, including sand winning at the beach.

“When the long arm of the law catches up with such people, they would be dealt with without mercy,” he said. The Joseph Project/Emancipation Day is being launched at various areas with historical linkages to the slave trade ahead of the main PANAFEST event.

Mr Ahiabor said the government was committed to its promise to execute all sub-projects of the Sea Defence Project and that the contract for the construction of a modern clinic at Kedzi had been awarded.

He wondered whether people had forgotten miseries that the ravages of the sea had caused to indulge or allow others to engage in such acts. Drumming and narrations of historical accounts of the slave trade in the area characterized the durbar that was attended by chiefs, government officials, tourists and Africans in the Diaspora.
