WAPCo hands over 756 million cedis school

Abuesi, May 25, GNA- The management of the West African Gas Pipeline Company Project (WAPCO) on Thursday handed over a six-unit classroom block to the Abuesi Methodist Primary School in the Western Region. Handing over the building, which is valued at 756 million cedis, Mrs. Harriet Wereko-Brobby, General Manager in charge of Corporate Affairs of WAPCO, said the project was the first of its kind to be completed within the first year of the company’s existence.

She said the company was spending 3.7 billion cedis on seven other projects in Ghana.

Mrs. Wereko-Brobby said the provision of infrastructure formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the company, to assist communities which would be affected by the construction of the gas pipeline form Nigeria through Benin, Togo and end in Ghana. Mrs. Wereko-Brobbry said Shama, Dwomo, Aboadze, Inchaban and Abuesi were beneficiaries of storm drains, places of convenience, school buildings, based on the needs of each community.

She commended the communities for supporting the project and urged the people to plant more trees to serve as windbreak.

Mrs. Wereko-Brobby urged parents to send the children to school so that they could acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development. Right Reverend John Harvey-Ewusi, Methodist Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese, said the school building should motivate the school children to learn harder to enable them pass their examinations. He said the lack of a junior secondary school in the area made it difficult for the children to continue their education after the primary level.
