Kumasi, Aug. 16, GNA – The Wangara community in Kumasi is to celebrate the centenary of their stay in Ashanti as well as the creation of a skin for the community.

The weeklong celebration, which starts on Friday, August 19, will end on Saturday, August 27.

Mr Mohammed Awal, Chairman of the Centenary Planning Committee, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday, said a number of activities had been lined up for the celebration. The celebration, Mr Awal said, would be crowned with a grand durbar of the Wangara community in Ashanti at the Prempeh Assembly Hall to be addressed by Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

He said for over 100 years that the Wangara community had lived in Kumasi, they had not experienced any breach of the peace nor any dispute among themselves and therefore commended the members for their exemplary conduct over the years.

Mr Awal also expressed their gratitude to the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) as well as the Asanteman Council for accommodating them in the region. 16 Aug. 05
