The West Africa Network for Peace-building (WANEP) has pledged its support to the Electoral Commission and security agencies in their efforts towards averting electioneering threats before, during, and after the November polls.
Speaking to Class News on Wednesday May 18, Executive Director of WANEP Chukwuemeka Eze said his organisation was already engaging stakeholders to facilitate successful polls in November.
“We have developed key indicators, we are going to monitor from now onwards. Those indicators are going to be analysed from time to time and communicated to key stakeholders that could respond, namely the National Peace Council for example, eminent persons, queen mothers in all the regions in Ghana and, then, of course, also the intervention programme that from time to time WANEP carries out,” he stated.
“…We become like the ears of the Electoral Commission, security agents and other stakeholders on the ground to nip in the bud, some of these challenges and even at track one level, we are able to communicate with key actors, political actors through the African Union and ECOWAS, and, of course, the United Nations office for West Africa and the Sahel.
“We are looking at the pre-election indicators. What are the likely things that will cause violence? We are looking at the electoral process itself during the election and then the management of the election and post- election. We have agreed on 26 indicators that we are going to monitor,” he added.
