WANEP-GHANA lauds Binduri out of court settlement decision

National Coordinator for the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP-Ghana), Justin Bayor has lauded the out-of-Court settlement agreement reached between the Bawku Divisional Command and the traditional authorities in Bazua.

The decision was taken at a meeting between the Bawku Municipal Assembly Security Council and the traditional authorities of the Bazua community.

Some 45 suspects of the Bazua community in the Bawku Municipality were arrested during recent reprisal attacks between Mamprusis and Kusasis.

The Police were expected to arraign them before court but rescinded their decision because of the mutual agreement.

Security Analysts have described the decision as a positive move to find a lasting solution to the recurrent clashes in Bazua.

Speaking in an interview, National Coordinator for WANEP-Ghana, Justin Bayor said, “I think that it is a step in the right direction, actually if they had arraigned them before court what would have happened is that there would have been a winner and definitely a loser and that would not have helped settled the matter.”

He appealed to the two factions to adopt a win-win approach to resolve the impasse between them.

“They should sit down and identify their needs and at the end of the day come out with an amicable solution that is agreeable to both parties and no party will be aggrieved at the end of the day, this I think will help in promoting a lasting peace in Binduri.”
