WAJA calls for entries for Excellence Award 2008-07-11

Accra, July 11, GNA – The West African Journalists Association (WAJA) is calling for entries for an Excellence Award 2008 intended to honour the best three reports in print media, radio and television in the areas of conflict prevention, peacekeeping and human rights. A statement signed by Mr. Dave Agbenu, Organising Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, said each prize-winner would receive a cash prize. In addition, the three winners would take part in a conflict prevention workshop scheduled for September in Banjul, Gambia. It said to vie for the awards a candidate must be a West African national and a practicing journalist. Candidates can contest individually and do not need a recommendation from a newspaper, an editor, publisher or audiovisual production firm. However, it said, newspapers, editors and publishers can nominate candidates.

The statement said for broadcast journalists, the entries must have been broadcast between March 1, 2007 and March 1, 2008 while for the print media, the articles must have been published during the same period. The statement said all submissions must be made before July 20, 2008 and sent to: Ghana International Press Centre or WAJA Headquarters.
