Wait for further details on arrested officials – EC appeals

The Electoral Commission has asked Ghanaians to wait for details of the Police investigations regarding the arrest of three of its officials who allegedly attempted to secure evidence to facilitate the EC’s case in court against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The three were arrested on Sunday but have since been granted bail by the Tamale Police Command in the Northern Region on suspicion that they attempted to get some previously unsigned pink sheets validated.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast News on Monday, the Principal Public Relations Officer at the EC, Sylvia Annor stated that “we need to wait patiently because there are so many rumours flying round. We need to get the facts right, we need to get the details, we need to know exactly what went on based on the investigations.”

According to her, what is in the public domain concerning the matter are allegations which must be substantiated “we cannot be the judges; we need to wait for the Police and the other legal related institutions to pick up and then professionally, we can talk about it.”

Mrs. Annor however refused to disclose if the EC was aware its branch in Savelugu was embarking on that illegal exercise.
