Wahala demo to hit Cape Coast

Feverish preparations have begun for the next in the series of wahala demonstrations scheduled for the Cape Coast, the central regional capital on Sunday September 18, 2005.

The demonstration will be the first to be organized by the Committee for Joint Action-CJA since the government announced increases in the prices of petrol and diesel in July.

An advance team of organizers is expected to leave Accra for Cape Coast in the next few days.

The organizers have a mandate to work with local organizers in holding community for a both in town and on the campuses of the various educational institutions.

They will also participate in radio discussion programmes and interact with the leadership and members of mass organizations in the Central region.

For the first time the CJA organizers will show films on previous demonstrations at all centres where community fora would be held.

The demonstration in Cape Coast has been given an added impetus by statements attributed to President Kufuor.

During a recent visit to Cape Coast President Kufuor said ? If wahala demonstrators don?t have anything doing they should go to the Eastern region and acquire lands to farm.?

President Kufuor has been roundly condemned by the Central regional branch of the CJA, which indicates that president Kufuor considers farming as an activity reserved for idle hands.

The wahala demonstration in Cape Coast is expected to be one of the biggest in spite of the difficulties associated with mass mobilization in Cape Coast.

It is not clear whether former President Rawlings and his vice Prof John Evans Atta Mills would participate in the Cape Coast wahala.

Leading members of the CJA expected to lead the Cape Coast demonstration include Ato Ahwoi, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Ama Benyiwa Doe Ofosu Ampofo, Baba Jamal, Don Atta and ?General Mosquitoe? all of the NDC.

Others are Alhaji Ramadan of the PNC, Kyeretwie Opoku of the NRP, Kwesi Pratt Junior of the CPP, David Pessy and Emelia Arthur all of NRP among others.
