Accra, May 10, GNA- The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) would today hold an emergency meeting to decide, whether to extend the deadline for the submission of application forms for the November/December examinations, which ends tomorrow.
This follows calls by the candidates and the public for WAEC to extend the deadline to allow all the applicants who for sometime now have besieged the Council’s offices to submit their forms.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Senior Public Affairs Director Of WAEC said the council would be monitoring the situation at the various centres in Accra and other regions from today till the deadline before they could make any definite pronouncement.
She said the council started selling the application forms to the candidates about six weeks ago adding that they were supposed to process and submit the forms within the specified time.
She said in Greater Accra alone there were six WAEC centres, including Accra Academy, Legon Presec and Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), and Tema where applicants could submit their forms.
She said late presentation of forms at the centres has become a perennial problem because most candidates even though might have bought their forms on time would prefer to submit them at the last minute. Mrs. Teye Cudjoe also said WAEC was working with time since from now up to sometime in October this year, it has to go through each application to make sure that they followed the necessary guidelines. She said reports from the other regions suggested that the process has been quite smooth without any problem except the Ashanti Region, which from the beginning had a few problems.
