Wechau(UWR), April 21, GNA – Wa West District Assembly on Tuesday approved Mr Seidu Tingbani, a 45-year-old teacher at Wa Senior High School as its District Chief Executive. He polled 20 votes in his favour with seven against, representing 74 per cent of the 27-member assembly in an election supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission. There was spontaneous jubilation among members of the assembly and a cross section of supporters of National Democratic Congress (NDC) as well as sympathisers of the Mr Tingbani when the results were declared. The supporters poured talcum powder on Mr Tingbani amidst singing and dancing while some took to the streets to express their happiness and gratitude. Mr Tingbani promised to be a selfless, dedicated and committed leader and pursue accountability and transparent administration to help bring development to the district. He said poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, disease and initiation of self-help projects would be his priority areas to improve the living standards of the people. Mr Tingbani appealed to people in the district to put aside partisan politics, all other differences and forge ahead in unity in their quest to develop the district.
Mr Tingbani said: “I will leave no stone unturned in my efforts to develop the district and asked for cooperation of all to ensure the development agenda of the district is achieved.” Mr Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister said there was an urgent need for people in the district to take a critical and passionate reflection on the developmental challenges confronting the area. He therefore, urged them to rise above partisan, ethnic and religious considerations and pool resources to complement government’s development efforts. Members of Wa Municipal Assembly also unanimously approved Mr Duogo Yakubu, a 43-year-old Lecturer at Wa Polytechnic as the Wa Municipal Chief Executive. Mr Yakubu obtained 100 per cent votes from the 25-member assembly. He urged the members to avoid religious and ethnic affiliations, partisan politics and work in unity to reduce poverty among the people. Mr Yakubu urged them to collaborate and network with other assemblies and development oriented organisations to address the development needs of the people to improve their living standards. 21 April 09
