Wa West fails to endorse DCE

Wechiau (UW), July 7, GNA – The Wa West District Assembly in the Upper West Region on Thursday failed to endorse Mr Daniel Dari, the President’s nominee as District Chief Executive, at an emergency meeting held at Wechiau.

Out of 23 total votes cast, Mr. Dari polled 13 with 10 against, thus representing 56.5 per cent of the members present who voted and therefore, qualified for a second ballot, which would be conducted within 10 days.

Before the voting began, Alhaji Isssaka Hassan, the Presiding Member appealed to the Assembly Members to bury their differences and unite for the purposes of developing the new District.

As a deprived district, he said, it was necessary that they rallied round the President’s nominee and confirm him so that he could immediately unveil his vision for the district in practical terms. Speaking to newsmen later, Mr Ambrose Dery, the Regional Minister said, although the result was a disappointment, he was hopeful that the nominee would be given the nod in the next ballot.

Also present at the brief ceremony was Alhaji Alhassan Bin Salih, a Member of the Council of State.
