Wa turns into ghost town following death of President Mills

The Wa Municipal went dead and could best be described as a ghost town when news broke about the death of President John Evans Atta Mills on Tuesday

His death shocked people in the Upper West Region because they had heard earlier in the day that the late President was to leave for Nigeria to attend an ECOWAS Summit.

When the GNA went to the Wa Constituency office of the NDC it saw large numbers of party supporters wearing gloomy faces and some were in tears.

Alhaji Seidu Jamatutu, Wa Central Constituency Chairman of the NDC, said the death was a shock to the people in the region because nobody thought he would die so soon.

“We are all in a state of mourning. We are all sad because this was a man, who advised everybody to be patient with his or her neighbor. This was a man who advised everybody to learn to forgive and forget and make friends with all,” he said.

Mr. Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, Deputy Constituency Secretary, said the NDC supporters in the region were somehow happy that Mr. John Dramani Mahama was sworn-in smoothly as the President to keep the country’s democracy on track.

Mr. Eric Dakurah, NDC Regional Secretary, said the death of President Mills was a great loss to Ghana and called on Ghanaians to unite and reconcile and patch up their differences.

A trader in the Wa Central Market, Madam Hawa Yakubu, urged Ghanaians to remain united and to maintain the peace that the late president preached.
