Wa to get electricity sub-station to boost power supply in Upper West

Designs for the construction of a new electricity sub-station which will stabilize power in the Upper West Region have been completed.

The project, for which funding has been secured, is part of the construction of 161kv electricity power lines from Wa to Tumu, to make power supply between the eastern and western corridors complete.

Mr Duogu Yakubu, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive who announced this at an ordinary meeting of the Assembly in Wa said, compensation package for farmers and other stakeholders whose lands are affected by the project had been worked out.

He said extension of electricity to rural communities carried out had been completed and would be inaugurated soon.

In its efforts to improve maternal health and reduce deaths during child birth, the Assembly supported midwife trainees who would be working in the Municipality with GH¢6,000.

It has assisted the Municipal Health Directorate with GH¢5,500 to undertake a malaria control programme whose main activity is to prevent malaria through the use of insecticide mosquito net.**
