Wa School for the Blind boy’s dormitory gutted by fire

Wa, June 16, GNA – Fire has razed down the boys dormitory of the Wa Methodist School for the Blind in Wa in the Upper West Region. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, was the second tragedy to befall the dormitory block within the first six months of the year. The first disaster occurred on January 14.

Mr Sampson Akurugu, Headmaster of the School, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in Wa, said the course of the fire was not known, but suspected an electrical fault.

Mr Akurugu said the boys were being accommodated temporarily at the school’s dining hall.

Mr Stephen Adu, Acting Deputy Director General of Education who was at the school have a look at the disaster urged the Regional Education Directorate to take quick take steps to address the problem. He asked the students to remain calm while the school authorities rectified the problem.

Meanwhile personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service are conducting investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.
