Wa residents destroy 20 refuse containers

Wa, April 29, GNA – The Wa Municipal Assembly will need 720 million cedis to replace 20 refuse containers that were destroyed by the residents through the reckless pouring of embers into them. Mr H.B. Naabo, the Municipal Coordinating Director said because of the huge amount involved, the assembly was finding it extremely difficult to replace the burnt containers without jeopardizing work in equally important sectors, because each of them cost 36 million cedis. He said this at the launching of a Community based Health Planning Service (CHIPS) for Dondoli, a suburb of Wa on Thursday.

The Wa Municipal Coordinating Director said the Assembly could not continue to use its meagre resources to provide facilities in communities only for unpatriotic citizens within those communities to destroy them and urged the people to be on the watch out for those indulged in such behaviour.

He told the people to embrace the CHIPS concept because it was designed to prevent the outbreak of diseases in their communities. Madam Crescentia Duopar, a Deputy Director of Nursing Services explained that the CHIPS programme would provide health and family planning services with community members on an individual and household basis.

The Nurse in-charge would also conduct early diagnosis and treatment of common ailments and early referral of serious cases to hospitals, increase coverage of service, improve responsiveness and deliver efficient, equitable and cost effective health care, she added. In a related development, Miss Basilia Salia, Wa Municipal Director of Health Services has inaugurated a 173 million-cedi CHIPS facility for the Kperisi area in the Wa Municipality.

She appealed to the residents of the communities within the catchments area to support the Nurse placed in charge of the facility to carry out her duties effectively for their benefit.
