Wa NCCE embarks on educational programme

Wa, March 3, GNA – The Wa Municipal Directorate of National Commission on Civic Education has embarked on a public education programme on the constitution in all the Junior Secondary Schools in the Municipality.

Apart from educating the children on their fundamental human rights, special rights on children were also spelt out to enable them to get acquainted to their rights and responsibilities.

Mr Eric Nawai, Municipal Director of NCCE also talked about female genital mutilation, child labour, betrothal and forced marriages which he urged them to report to the law enforcement agencies. He advised the student to be law-abiding, take up their responsibilities at both home and school that would empower them to be future successful adults.

“Rights go with responsibilities and the two are both guaranteed in the constitution. As school children you are to protect school and national property including the safe guarding of the constitution.” Mr Saaka Malibunnah, a field office of NCCE advised the children against alcoholism, indecent dressing and smoking of dangerous drugs. He also urged them not to be rebellious to their parents and elders but to seek the appropriate channels to solve their problems if there were any.
