Wa Municipal Assembly rejects President’s nominee

Wa, Jan. 15, GNA – Wa Municipal Assembly on Tuesday failed to confirm President John Kufuor’s nominee, Mr. Abdul Aziz Mohammed as Municipal Chief Executive.

The 24-member House voted 14 in his favour and 10 voted against him. He failed to obtain 16 votes to make two-thirds of the required votes needed for his confirmation.

The House is however, to reconvene within 10 days to reconsider confirming him as he has been able to obtain more than 50 per cent of valid votes cast.

The Wa Municipal Assembly has been without a Chief Executive for the past one-year and the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. George Hikah Benson has been acting.

Similar confirmation exercises would be conducted at Wa East and Sissala West Districts on Thursday to confirm President’s nominees as District Chief Executives.
