Wa Municipal Assembly confirms Abdul Aziz as Municipal Chief Executive

Wa, Jan. 24, GNA- Mr. Abdul Aziz Mohammed, the President’s nominee for the position of Wa Municipal Chief Executive on Wednesday polled 19 votes representing 76 percent out of the total of 25 votes to be confirmed as the new Chief Executive of the Assembly.

On the January 14, the Assembly failed to confirm him as he got 14 out of 24 votes cast, and therefore could not obtain the two-third majority required by the constitution. Four new Assembly members; Jamila Issah, Abubakari Rahman, Abdul Hak- Jamal and Daudi Osman who replaced four old ones who received their dismissal letters hours before the elections were also sworn-in before they were allowed to exercise their franchise. Mr. Mohammed thanked the Assembly for confirming him and promised to harmoniously work with all of them to enhance the needed development of the area.

He also pleaded for the support of the people to enable him to strategise to achieve the development goals of the Assembly, which had been without a Chief Executive after the removal of Mac Adams Banda over a year ago.

Mr. George Hikah Benson, Upper West Regional Minister urged the Assembly Members to use their energies in fighting poverty, illiteracy and disease, which remained a perpetual enemy of the region, rather than spending so much time on rivalries. “It is when you are able to maintain all the cracks in you that you will be able to enjoy the fruit of unity and love,” he concluded.
