Wa East fails to endorse President’s nominee

Funsi (UW), July 10, GNA – Assemblymembers of the newly created Wa East District in the Upper West Region on Friday failed to approvethe President’s nominee as the District Chief Executive.

The nominee, Mr Hudeen Ahmed Daud, 34, polled 13 votes in his favour with ten against, in an election.

Despite this, Mr Daud automatically qualifies for a second round of voting within the stipulated 10 days period on the basis of securing more than half of the number of votes cast.

He had 56.5 per cent of the votes, which is more than the 50 per cent required to go into the second round of voting. Earlier in his pre-election speech, Mr Daud pleaded with the assembly members to place their developmental needs of the District above their personal and partisan interests, reminding them of the deprived nature of the area.

Alhaji Alhassan Bin Salih, a Member of the Council of State, the Regional Minister, Ambrose Dery and the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Godfrey Tangu were among the large number of people who witnessed the election.
