Wa Central PNC elects a lawyer as parliamentary candidate

Wa, Aug 19, GNA – The Wa Central Constituency of the People’s National Convention (PNC) on Sunday elected a 58-year-old lawyer, Mr Edward Amadu Mumuni, as its parliamentary candidate to contest the December 7 poll.

Mr Mumuni polled 31 votes to beat Mr Nuhu Iddris, a retired educationist who polled 18 votes out of the 50 delegates who cast their votes.

Mr Mumuni thanked the delegates for electing him and urged the supporters of the party to work hard to win the seat. He said economic development of the north was his number one priority if he was elected to parliament.

Mr Mumuni gave the assurance that he would fight for subsidies for farmers in the north to reduce poverty.

He said it was wrong on the part of the government to subsidise cocoa production and neglect peasant farmers in the north with subsidies.

He said during the colonial government era, livestock farmers in the north were subsidised through the vaccination of their animals but that had been stopped.

Mr Mumuni said he would also fight for the inclusion of Wala/Dagari language in the local languages to be broadcast on the national radio and television.

This, he said, would help educate the people in this part of the country.

Dr Gilbert Bainge, Upper West Regional Chairman of the PNC, called on Ghanaians to vote for visionary political leaders.

He said the country was poor due to mismanagement on the part of visionless political leaders who used money to deceive the people to take their mandate to rule the country.

Dr Bainge said PNC has the best ideas and materials to rule the country and urged the electorate to vote for it for progress and development.
