Wa Central NPP urged to unite to win election

Wa, Sept. 5, GNA – Mr Clement Eledi, a Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, on Saturday called on the various factions within the Wa Central Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to come together to resolve their differences to enable them to start their campaign for Election 2004.

“The solution to the problem in the constituency is in Wa and this we can resolve at a roundtable of all factions and not through the issuing of press statements or schemes in Accra,” he said.

Mr Eledi was speaking to newsmen after receiving a rousing welcome by Party supporters, who met him at Bamahu, a village five kilometres to Wa.

The Deputy Minister, who is contesting for the Parliamentary ticket of NPP in the Wa Central Constituency, was escorted by a two-kilometre long convoy of cheering supporters in buses, motorbikes and bicycles with brass band and traditional music to Wa.

The supporters later went on a peaceful procession through the principal streets of Wa but were prevented by the Police from holding a rally at the Wanwan Park.

Mr Eledi told newsmen that the collective interest of the NPP was at stake in the Constituency and stressed the need for unity, saying, “it is not the one who stood as candidate but who is capable of winning the seat for the party.

“I believe I have done enough and have the capacity to win the seat this time round,” Mr Eledi said, adding that he was prepared to sacrifice if that could help in the growth of the NPP, because the Party was supreme.

“I wish to remind those who are opposing me that I have no ill-feeling against any of them,” he said.
