Sekondi, July 26, GNA – Mr Kwesi Blay, Deputy Western Regional Minister, on Wednesday said the country’s Golden Jubilee celebration slated for next year should be used to promote indigenous Ghanaian culture.
Inaugurating the Regional Advisory Planning Committee for the celebration in Sekondi, Mr Blay said the themes and activities for the occasion have been chosen to reflect the history and culture of the country.
He said each region is expected to organise activities relevant to various themes selected for each month during the celebration. Mr Blay said District Chief Executives in the region have a role to play in the scheme of things to supplement the efforts of the Regional Planning Committee.
“It will be useful and pragmatic for those of us lucky to be part of the celebrations to leave permanent legacies of this epoch making landmark in our history,” he added.
He held that the objective of the celebration should not be to provide only a perpetual reminder to present and future generations of Ghanaians, but “more importantly they should be seen as useful testaments which will contribute to improving the lives of our people and inspiring them to greater commitment to our course as a nation”. He said planning and implementation of regional events should start immediately and urged the committee to work hard to meet the deadline assigned to the regions to submit their reports to the National Planning Committee.
Mr Blay further asked the committee to ensure that the regional capital and important attractions in the region are kept clean during the celebration.
