W/NR: SEFWI ABISIHENE CALLS FOR A CHANGE IN GHANAIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM FROM RESULTS ORIENTED TO CAPACITY BUILDING

The chief of Sefwi Denkyemoase who double as the Sefwi Abisihene for the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional council of the Western North Region, Nana Kwasi Gyabeng II has called for a change in the Ghanaian education system from results oriented to capacity building.

Speaking to the media  at the send-off ceremony of  Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Director of Education, Nana Gyabeng said students are praised of being clever after a successful outcome in an examination whiles teachers are been blamed for students poor performance in examination.

He reiterated that, it has led into the increase of examination malpractices in the sector. He therefore urged stakeholders to empower students with practical learning rather than results oriented in our educational system we termed as chew, pour and forget.

Our Education system has turned into a result oriented, always looking for a good grades. When we’re able to focus on building the individual, everybody gets their share. I will urge all stakeholders to prioritize capacity building rather than results oriented.”

However, he ascertain that some students are slow in learning but good with practical. He cited most countries which adapt practical in their educational system have thrive and inventing more machines. Nana Gyabeng added that, due to our educational system, Ghanaian students are good at Orals topping International quizzes but perform poorly with practical.

“Some children are slow in learning but are good in practical work. Most countries are thriving with practical works. Ghana topped most of International quizzes when it comes to orals but fail practical aspects.  Stakeholders must know we need a practical training to enhance our educational system.”

Furthermore, he encouraged the youths to adapt a good attitude in their workplaces and avoid greediness.
