Vulganizer jailed five years for robbery

The Takoradi Circuit Court “B” on Thursday sentenced Francis Kojo Armah, a 24-year-old vulganizer to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for robbery. The accused pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Felix Danku told the Court presided over by Mr. Justice Charles Nimako that, Abraham Dzitse, the complainant, and the accused both lived at Kwesimintsim Zongo near Takoradi.

He said at about 2020 hours on September 9 last year, the complainant and some witnesses in the case went to buy food at the Kwesimintsim Lorry Station and on their way back home, the accused and one Kofi, who is also known as ‘Tough’, who were standing near the road, called the complainant and the witnesses.

Chief Inspector Danku said when the complainant and the witnesses heeded the call of the accused, he (Armah) demanded GH¢ 5 from them but the complainant told him they had none.

He said the accused immediately pulled a knife and succeeded in taking GH¢ 40 and a Nokia Mobile Phone valued at GH¢ 60 from the pocket of the complainant.

Chief Inspector Danku said when the complainant shouted, the accused took to his heels and the case was reported to the Police and the accused was later arrested.

He said a Samsung and a Nokia Mobile Phones were found on the accused when he was searched and the complainant identified his Nokia Phone.

Chief Inspector Danku said during interrogation, the accused admitted that he took the money from the accused but denied pulling a knife on him.
