VRA urged to supervise weeding around its poles

Nkoranza (B/A), Jan. 20, GNA – Mr Michael Obour, Chairman of Yefri Area Council in Nkoranza District has urged the Volta River Authority (VRA) to effectively supervise workers assigned to weed around wooden electricity poles alongside roads.
Mr Obour told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that labourers were performing poorly and the poles could be burnt by bushfires, which would have to be replaced at great cost.
The Council Chairman suggested to the management of VRA that in subsequent years, such contracts should be awarded to the local communities to enable unit committees to organize the people to weed properly around the poles.
Since the local people will be thrown into darkness if the poles are destroyed, they would properly protect them, he held.
