VRA Tests Public Pulse On Proposed Tarrif Increases

Techiman (B/A) The Volta River Authority (VRA) and Northern Electricity Department (NED) have organised a public forum at Techiman on the justification for an increase in electricity tariffs. It was attended by members of identifiable groups, heads of government departments and corporations, assembly members and chiefs. Mr Mac Addo, Director of the Organisational Services Department of the VRA, told the people that the first phase of the 411 million-dollar Aboadze Thermal Plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts of electricity would become operational in July, this year. By the end of the year, the second unit of the generating plant would be installed while the third generator would also be completed by the middle of 1998 to meet national energy requirements.
