VRA: Power supply restored

Accra, Dec. 8, GNA – The Volta River Authority (VRA) announced on Thursday that power supply has been restored to normalcy throughout the country.

It said power was restored at 2030 hours on Tuesday, December 16, following the completion of a mandatory inspection work on one 110MW unit of the TICO plant at the Takoradi Thermal Power Complex. The VRA made the announcement in a joint statement signed by Mr Kofi Asante, VRA’s Director of Corporate Services, Mr Eric Asare, Manager, System Control Centre of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and Mrs Gloria Dua-Sakyi, Manager, Public Relations of the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The statement said the three utility companies were determined to continue with team work and collaboration to ensure that reliable power supply was sustained throughout the country for the rest of December and the New Year.

“The three utilities would like to emphasise that the unfortunate disruption of power supply to several parts of the country since Sunday evening on December 14, 2008, was purely due to the exigencies and contingencies associated with running an inter-connected power system,” it said.
