VRA holds 50th anniversary service

Accra, May 8, GNA – The Volta River Authority (VRA) on Sunday climaxed its 50th anniversary celebrations with a call on all to support the company as it seeks to become a pacesetter in electricity provision in the West African sub region.

Mr Kweku Awotwe, Chief Executive officer of VRA, who was speaking during a thanksgiving service to climax the 50th anniversary celebration of the company said, that it in an effort to improve upon its services to Ghanaians, the company had undertaken a number of restructuring activities such as the provision of solar energy.

He praised Kwame Nkrumah, the founder of the VRA for its vision and for putting in place the needed measures to ensure the success of the VRA.

Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Deputy a Minister of Energy pledged government’s support towards the activities of the company and praised it for its contribution towards the socio-economic development of the country.

“We appreciate your efforts in the provision of electricity in the country which had seen you getting invitation from countries in the sub region to help in the establishment of electricity and power in their countries,” he noted.

Archbishop Dr Justice Offei Akrofi, Anglican Bishop of Accra, appealed to government to ensure that the company was given the necessary assistance to update itself.

“We would also call for non political interference in the works and the activities of the VRA so that it could function effectively,” he advised.

Archbishop Akrofi appealed to the staff of the company to put their political difference aside and work for the growth of the company.

The service was interspersed with musical performance from the Akosombo International School and Pastor Josh Laryea, and the Police Band.
