VRA donates food items to flood victims

Tamale, Oct. 17, GNA- The Volta River Authority (VRA) has donated rice and maize valued at over 100 million cedis to victims of the recent floods in the three northern regions.

Miss Abla Fiadjo, Acting Director of Corporate Affairs of VRA, presented the Northern Region’s consignment made up of 120 bags of rice and 90 bags of maize to the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, in Tamale on Tuesday.

She said the donation formed part of the social responsibility of the VRA and was also to express the sympathy and concern of the corporation to the victims of the floods who lost their properties and were also rendered homeless without food.

She said the Upper East and Upper West regions would also receive similar donations.

The three regions would also receive cash donations. Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris said the floods had destroyed the road network of the region and would require massive capital investment to improve.

He thanked VRA for its concern for the plight of the people and expressed the hope that other organisations would emulate the example in helping to provide for the needs of the flood victims.
