VRA denies “skewing” Takoradi gas turbine construction bid

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has denied claims that it is skewing the tendering process in the construction of the Gas turbine at Takoradi in favour of one contractor.

A resident of Accra, Grandfada Ayitomeka has petitioned the Public Procurement Board Authority accusing the power producer of unfair treatment in the bidding process for the construction of the gas turbine.

He said he suspects the VRA is up to no good with the process.

But a Corporate Affairs Officer at the VRA, Fiifi Taakor, has told XYZ News that the Authority has always followed due process in handling the construction of the turbine.

“…that is not the case. Eight bidders were shortlisted worldwide so the question of single sourcing does not come in at all…but we were specific the company can provide a GE machine because the space for the turbine can only accommodate that”.

Fiifi Taakor insists that, requirements cannot be bended for any reason.

“All other equipment are welcomed but we specifically stated that the GE machine is the only machine that can fit into the space that has been provided so any company that wants to bid must have it on their list”.
