VRA contracts workers to protect electricity poles from bushfires

Nkoranza (B/A), Dec. 28, GNA – The Management of the Volta River Authority has contracted workers to weed around electricity poles to protect them against bushfires during the harmattan season. Mr Seth Koomson, Nkoranza VRA Station Supervisor told the Ghana News Agency that about 2,850 wooden and concrete poles that lead to beneficiary communities in the District had been awarded on contract. He said an estimated 15 million cedis would be spent on the project.

Mr Koomson urged Assembly Members, Unit Committees and traditional authorities to educate their people to help protect the poles against the menace “as the government spends a lot of money in replacing burnt poles”. “Local fire volunteers should carry our regular inspection of the poles to ensure that they are not engulfed in weeds”, he said. The VRA Station Supervisor urged staff members to help protect the poles to save the company financial loss as a result of the poles getting burnt through bushfires.
