VRA clashes with Department of Urban Roads

A road safety audit carried out by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in Wa has revealed a number of road safety hazards in the Municipality.

This has, however, caused the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Department of Urban Roads (DUR) to be on each others throat at a stakeholders meeting in Wa.

The two are at loggerheads over who should foot the bill for the relocation of some electricity poles.

Mr Abdul-Samad Mohammed, Upper West Regional Manager of the NRSC said some electricity poles are exposing motorists to danger especially in the night because of their location and poor visibility.

Mr Nathaniel Baena, Wa Area Manager of the VRA said the DUR should write to the Authority requesting management to do the costing for the Department to pay for the relocation of the poles.

However, Mr Oliver Bigger, Regional Director of the DUR said his outfit cannot use its meagre resources in cleaning up the mess created by another organisation.

Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Regional Minister, in an attempt to cool down tempers arranged a private meeting to resolve the issue.
