NOVIHA, a UK-based group of Ghana?ians, have donated books worth15O million cedis and a cash of 2 million cedis to some selected schools in the Volta Region on 14th December 2005.
The schools that benefited are in the Akatsi, Keta and North Tongu districts. They are: Keta Secondary School, Anlo Afiadenyigba Secondary School, Adidome Sec?ondary School, Dagbamate JSS and Dedzidzi Early Childhood Development Centre and the Keta Community Library. The over 5500 books covered subjects like mathematics, English, science, social studies and fiction.
The donation was in response to an ap?peal by Mr Kodzo Baba Dzokoto, chairman of the Keta Youth Association to the associa?tion after it had earlier donated hospital equip?ment to the Keta and Sogakope hospitals.
Mr Bliss B. Ayivor, president of Noviha UK, presenting the items said even though the association was initially formed to cater for the welfare of its members, it has over the years focused on helping brothers and sisters back home.
He said the association has liaised with various institutions and organisations in the UK for assistance to enable them acquire some of the items presented. Mr Ayivor disclosed that the association has also decided to sponsor three boys and three girls, who are brilliant but needy, with scholarships of six million cedis each per year to help them through Senior Secondary School. This, he said, would spur them on to achieve the ultimate in their education. Mr Edward Kofi Ahiabor, the Keta Dis?trict Chief Executive, expressed his appre?ciation to the association and called on the beneficiary schools to take good care of them.
The delegation which included Ms Grace Deyegbe, Mrs Claudette Ayivor, Mrs Celia Zambrera, Mr Gabriel Goka and Mr Patrick Avorkliya later visited the beneficiary schools.
