VR NADMO prepares against flood

Ho, May 8, GNA – Security services, workers of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and individuals in Ho on Saturday engaged in a three-hour clean-up in preparedness for any flood. They cleared weeds, desilted gutters and re-charted waterways mainly at flood prone areas in the town.

The exercise, which was at the instance of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), was to mark the regional launch of the “Pre-flooding clean-up exercise.” At the launch, Mr AikinsKwaku Anani, Deputy Regional Coordinator, Manpower and Mobilization of NADMO, noted that improper refuse disposal remained a major cause of flooding in the country and called for concerted efforts to address the challenge.

He observed that many people including highly placed people in society dump refuse in water ways, indiscriminately and called on security personnel to help NADMO educate the public on the practice. Mr. Aikins asked teachers and pastors to join the campaign against indiscriminate disposal of refuse unsanitary practices to prevent flooding. He said NADMO would organise regular clean-up exercises and campaign to ensure good physical planning to reduce flooding and other disasters in the region. 8 May 10
