Voting progressing steadily across the country

Accra, Dec. 28, GNA – Voting in the 2008 Presidential Election Runoff is generally progressing steadily throughout country. At the Christ the King Polling Station of the Lakoo Electoral Area of Dade Kotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region; the Presiding Officer, Ms Charlotte Asare Nyarkoh told the GNA that all the voting materials arrived early and voting started in earnest at 0700 hours. She said there were 1,329 names on the voters register and 54 on the transfer voters list.

Voting was smooth and there were 128 people in a queue ready to exercise their franchise.

A transfer voter, Mr Kwabena Bempong, who had problem during the December 7, 2008 polls, expressed his satisfaction with the process because this time around the transfer voters list had been provided. At the Information Service Polling Station ‘B’ in the Kanda Electoral Area of Ayawaso East Constituency, also in greater Accra Region; the Presiding Officer Jerry Wormenor told the GNA that there were 291 names on the register, nine on the transfer voters list; 16 absentee voters and four proxy voters. By 0715 hours 19 people had exercised their franchise.

At the nearby Information Service Polling Station ‘A’, the Presiding Officer, Ms Stephanie Essilfie said 703 voters were expected to cast their ballots at the centre. There were 700 names on the voters register and three on the transfer voters list and 19 absentee voters. There were 22 voters in the queue to vote, while 26 had voted by 0717 hours. Ms Essilfie said all the election materials arrived on time and voting started at 0700 hours prompt.

She said one of the electoral officers did not turn up so she had to do the identification herself.
