Voting – Akatsi

At Akatsi in the Volta Region, voting started on schedule at 0700 hours with voting materials in place and long and winding queues formed at many polling stations in the Ave-Avenor constituency. A visit by the GNA to some polling stations including ARS, No 1 Primary, Tobacco Block and Demonstration School in the Upper Fiato Electoral Area and the Roman Catholic Mission and Central Mosque stations in Lower Fiato Electoral Area showed an encouraging turnout of voters with queues formed as early as 0400 hours. Most of the polling stations recorded between 200 and 300 votes as at 0930 hours, described by Presiding Officers as indications of high voter enthusiasm. The few security personnel around were on virtual holiday in view of the apparent smooth conduct of the poll so far and the agents of the various political parties appeared co-operative. Mr. Joseph Yao Fleagboh, a Deputy Returning Officer of the Ave-Avenor constituency, told the GNA that materials were dispatched to all centres on time and the conduct so far peaceful except at Wlitey near Akatsi when a security man was called in to bring some voters who wanted to disorganize the queue to order.
