Voters Registration exercise progresses at Agona West and East- Mr Amoah

Agona Swedru, June 19, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) has replaced all faulty Cameras and Photo printers in the 49 Electoral Centers of the Agona West Municipality and Agona East District with new ones to ensure the success of the Limited Registration Exercise.

Mr Kwame Amoah, Agona West Municipal Electoral Director who made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in interview at Agona Swedru on Friday, said as a result the exercise was progressing steadily. “So far the exercise has proceeded smoothly with all the working equipment operating effectively at all the registration centres selected for the electoral areas”, Mr Amoah said.

Mr Amoah appealed to those who have lost their identification cards not to register again but should rather contact the District Officer of the EC for replacement.

Mr Amoah urged the prospective applicants to be truthful with every information they would provide to the registration Officers to enable the EC to have accurate data.

When the Ghana News Agency visited some registration centres at Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, Agona Abodom, Upper Bobikuma, Nkum, Mankrong-Junction and Agona Nsaba it came to light that the exercise was going on smoothly and patronage encouraging.

It also came to light that the long queues found at the registration centre when the exercise started had vanished. Mr Samuel Enchill Dickson, Registration Officer at Nkubem/Tapirow Electoral Center at Agona Swedru, told the GNA that the Center had registered 35 people and issued them with cards on Friday alone. Mr E.K. Kwakye, Agona West Constituency First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) commended the Electoral Officer for the quick manner it took to address problems that cropped up at the beginning of the exercise.

He urged the prospective applicants in the Constituency to cooperate with the Registration Officers and Party agents assigned to the Electoral Centers.

Mr Kwakye warned the people not to attempt to do double registration since it was an offence and could lead to their arrest and prosecution. Agents of the New Patriot Party and the National Democratic Congress were present at the centres. 19 June 10
