From delegates being made to take spiritual oaths to intimidating opponents right down to vote buying, nothing has exposed Akufo-Addo’s election last Saturday as the flagbearer of the NPP for 2016 than the fact that there was over voting; the sum of the total votes in percentages recorded was 100.01%!
Per the arguments that Nana Akufo-Addo, through his lawyer as well as Mahamudu Bawumia vociferously espoused before the Supreme Court during the hearing of their election petition last year, there was over voting at last Saturday’s election. This means that Akufo-Addo’s victory was not credible.
According to the official results released, Akufo-Addo had 117,413 votes which represented 94.35% of the total votes cast. Alan Kyeremanten received 15,908 votes which is 4.75% of the total votes cast while Addai Nimo received 1,198 votes representing 0.91%of total votes cast. While total votes cast must be 100%, the total votes cast on Saturday (94.35% + 4.75% +0.91%= 100.01%) indicates the anomaly called ‘over-voting’ according to Akufo-Addo and co. because 0.1% votes more were recorded at the election, but not cast.
Now, the question is whether Akufo-Addo and Bawumia who claimed they went to the Supreme Court as a matter of principle, head to court once more and pray it to annul the votes that made the former winner in last Saturday’s election?
