Vote for winnable, genuine candidates – Afoko

The chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko has cautioned delegates to vote for parliamentary candidates who “will project the true values of the party” in this Saturday’s primaries.

The NPP goes to the polls this weekend to elect parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections.

“This is another opportunity for us to demonstrate our strong democratic culture and I believe we will shine again,” Afoko posted on his Facebook wall.

“We go into these primaries with great expectations; expectations from ourselves and the people of Ghana. I wish to advise all that the spirit of togetherness should permeate the zeal with which we conduct ourselves during the primaries. And in this quest, we should bear in mind that we are in search of candidates who will project the true values of the party and respond to the critical needs of their people; candidates who represent the genuine will of the people. We should elect candidates who can win their seats convincingly and also win more votes for our presidential candidate,” the national chairman added.

“I admonish all to conduct their activities during this period with circumspection and goodwill. Let the elected candidates show magnanimity in their victory and let those who fail to get the nod of the delegates be graceful and bear in mind that there are other equally meaningful ways for them to serve the party.

“The executives of the party remain committed to ensuring the smooth conduct of the primaries and in pursuit of that the National Secretariat has disbursed funds to all constituencies where the primaries will be held. Constituencies, which by Thursday, June 11, 2015 have not received their disbursements, should send their current account details to the General Secretary’s office. I wish all the aspirants good luck. May God bless us all and keep us united,” he added.
