Volta voters to get ID cards May 18 to 23

Ho, April 22, GNA – Mr Mohammed Addoquaye, Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), on Wednesday said the dates of June 18 to June 23, this year, given on slips as days for taking photos for the voters identity cards in the Volta Region was an error. He said the date should have been May 18 to May 23, this year, and that the error happened when registration officials were inadvertently given the wrong dates during their training.

Mr Addoquaye told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on telephone that the days for the exercise as fixed by headquarters had always remained May 18 to May 23, this year, maintaining that the error was from the region. He said a publicity campaign would start immediately to alert the general public about the mistake and get them prepared for the exercise. Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, Chairman of the EC, last weekend said in Ho, when asked about the change in dates for the Volta Region, during a Parliamentary Committee on Subsidiary Legislation Committee workshop that, the dates as originally fixed by the EC still stood.

His position deepened the people’s confusion of the correct dates, as slips of some voters bore the dates of June 18 to 23 this year.
