Volta Regional Hospital appeals for more donors

Ho, April 12, GNA – Mr Vincent Fekpe, Blood Donation Organiser of the Volta Regional Hospital at Ho, on Tuesday appealed to organisations, companies and individuals to help sustain voluntary blood donation to the hospital.

He said this help could be in the form of beverages and souvenirs such as T-shirts, key holders and mugs to be given to donors. Mr Fekpe was speaking to the GNA during an organised blood donation by 30 soldiers from the 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho to mark the regiment’s 39th anniversary.

He said the Blood Bank had only been managing to keep levels of stock ”at convenient levels” by organising blood donation campaigns in second cycle schools and the Ho Polytechnic.

Mr Fekpe said the Blood Bank hardly operated on deficit but said there had been emergencies when the Blood Bank had to rush to schools to replace stock.

Mr Raymond Atakpa, the Technologist at the Blood Bank, said the rate at which donated blood was found to have traces of infections such as HIV and hepatitis B was minimal.
